He seemed to know what to do and knowing that if any assistance was required I would be sent for I left. The next morning the Matron and two sisters reported what had happened when I left. That is all I know personally. I spoke to him very seriously next morning, and he said he was not so drunk, for he was able to write and had pulled through all right. Regardingu what occurred on the night of the 25th May I have no personal Knowledge. It was reported to me by the Matron.

By Dr. Leing :-

Q. On the night of the 8th, was I drunk ?

A. I think you were as I told you next morning.

Q. Why did you leave me to perform the operation ?

▲. I thought you could have pulled yourself together to bring the

case to a proper termination.

Q. If I was sober why do you bring up the charge now ?

A. I brought it up on the morning of the 9th May and spoke seriously

about it to you.

Q. And you said you could not understand it as you had always looked

on me as a steady chap ?

A. That is true.

it

Q. And you have not seen me drunk before ?

A. That is so.

Q. During the three years and three months in Government Service ? A. That is so.

Q. And who was the instigator of charges I, 2, and 3 ?

A. The first was reported to me by the matron and two sisters.

Q. And why was it not brought forward before ? A. I gave you a chance.
